Well you’re in paradise, so the answer to this question is, however you want! You can relax on the beach and in the pool all day or fill your day with adventures. There is an endless list of things to do.
Beach Clubs
Enjoying the beach clubs is how most spend their time in Punta Mita. You never have to leave the gates and you can check out a new one every day. When you stay in Punta Mita you are given access to four: Kupuri Beach Club, Pacifico Beach Club, Sufi Ocean Club & Sea Breeze at the St. Regis. I go in-depth on all of them in this blog post.
Activities Inside the Gates
Upon check-in you are given a calendar of the week’s events that you can attend at the different beach clubs on property. In fact, we found that both Pacifico and Kupuri had a chalk board set up in their entrances with the day’s events and activities at their respective clubs.
I also mentioned the fitness center, pickleball courts and tennis courts. You can use them all and equipment rentals are on-site as well.
There are two main golf courses: the Pacifico Course the Bahia Course. The Pacifico Course has the famous tail of the whale hole which is a green located on a small island and you only get one shot to make that green and if you’re lucky – hole in one! My husband played both courses and found them both equally exciting.
You can also book massages through the resort’s spas, or the concierge can set up an in home massage for you. Me, being me, I looked independently for a mobile massage service and found one to come in house for half the price of what I was being offered. Since it was half price, I booked them twice! But, seriously, do you blame me??!
The Kiddou Club, at Kupuri Beach Club, offers an array of workshops and things for the kids to do: cooking class, art class, a treasure hunt. They even offer a family pirate ship adventure that includes a boat ride, treasure hunt, lunch, and snorkeling. This is an additional fee and we didn’t participate this time but it’s on our list for when we go back!
There is literally something for everyone and every age inside Punta Mita.
Activities Outside the Gates
We didn’t realize before we checked in that the concierge could arrange so many excursions for us. Had we known maybe we would have booked through them. However, when I go on trips, I like to do everything myself – read reviews, blogs, etc. – and book myself.
Hands down my favorite excursion, was our ATV and zip line adventure with Vista Paraiso. Even though I’ve already done it, I can’t wait to go back and do it again. We rode the ATVs through the town seeing how the locals live and then through the lush green jungle to the beautiful fields lined with mango trees. We ate the sweetest mangos straight from the tree. Once back at the complex we could get a quick lunch from the onsite restaurant before we started the zipline excursion. If you only do one excursion, this is it!
The boat tour to hidden beach was also great. The boat left out of the main Puerto Vallarta Harbor (about a 40 min. drive) and it took us about 1 hour to reach the Marietas Islands. After a quick sail and overview of the islands we jumped in the water and swam to hidden beach. Because it is protected land you are only given a 30-minute time limit at the beach to see it and take pictures. After the beach we went to another location to snorkel and then sailed around the rest of the islands to see their beauty and the birds that inhabit the island.
We did need to have our own transportation to these excursions so maybe booking through the Punta Mita would have been best if you don’t rent a car. Always double check when booking anything if transportation to and from is included.
Other Beach Towns
If time permits, I recommend checking out the beach town of Sayulita which is a short 20 minute ride north of Punta Mita. It has great street tacos, shops, outdoor market, and inexpensive seafood. It has a real Mexico beach town vibe to it. With its vibrant colors and authentic Mexican vibes it is definitely a great spot to spend the day walking, eating, drinking and shopping.
We didn’t spend much time in Puerto Vallarta proper, just enough time in the harbor to embark on our Marrietas Island excursion. People did recommend some good lunch spots and said that the streets of Puerto Vallarta also have an authentic Mexican vibe to them with lively shops and restaurants.
Needless to say, there is an endless array of things to do in Punta Mita. I only covered what we did but there is literally so much. Your days can either be full of excursions and activities or you can spend your days just relaxing in paradise!
